Meet the Body Armor® PFA: Engineered for Partial Foot Amputation Recovery

By Molly Glover, VP of US Marketing

Partial foot amputations are often described as "minor," but the reality tells a different story. These procedures are among the most difficult to heal, with only 67%* achieving successful recovery. Even more concerning, over 70% of patients re-ulcerate within six months**, placing them at risk for infection, tissue loss, or additional amputation.

For decades, clinicians have relied on CAM walkers and post-op shoes during the critical post-surgical phase. Yet these devices—designed for general use—often fall short of the unique needs of partial-foot patients. These limitations may contribute to the high complication rates we continue to see today.

A Solution Designed for This Exact Challenge

The Body Armor® PFA Walker was engineered to address the specific mechanical and protective needs of patients recovering from transmetatarsal, Lisfranc, or Chopart amputations. This interim orthosis provides the structure, offloading, and comfort required to support post-operative healing from day one.

Key highlights include:

--Purpose-built for post–partial foot amputation recovery

--Wide opening for easy application and to accommodate swelling

--Integrated air pump for customizable and even pressure distribution

--Rigid Outer Shell with a ventilated honeycomb pattern for stabilization and airflow

--PowerPod® outsole that promotes natural posture, ergonomic movement, improved traction, superior shock absorption, and slip resistance

--25% lighter construction to prevent delamination and support mobility

The Body Armor® PFA Walker is available in sizes M-XL and indicated for postoperative stabilization following partial foot amputations (Transmetatarsal, Chopart, or Linsfranc) due to diabetic foot syndrome, peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD), or trauma.
